Slemish Mist (Tess)

Pam Broomfield

I purchased my connemara Mare, Slemish Mist (Tess) last summer. I had saw her for sale a couple of years back but never thought I would be able to purchase her. However, last summer saw a change in our circumstances with us having the opportunity to move to a property in the country with some land. I saw that Tess was for sale and made arrangements to view her although I had already made my mind up! The only problem was that there was a chance she may be in foal as I was purchasing her from a connemara breeder. I decided to take her anyway. I switched all my ponies onto Simple System at the beginning of 2013 for various reasons and having chatted with Jane Van Lennep. We put Tess onto Lucie Nuts, Timothy Chop and Lunar Eclipse. Shortly after, I had Tess scanned which confirmed she was in foal and into her second trimester. On the 28th June, Tess foaled a beautiful bay colt foal. My husband and I had just went out to bring all the ponies in for the night only to discover she had just had the foal. The birth with quick and everything went to plan and within 40 minutes, Tess had had her foal, expelled her placenta, the foal was up and suckling and the pair where happily getting to know each other on fresh pasture. This was my first experience foaling, and I have to say it went so smoothly. As you can see from the photos, Tess is in fabulous condition and the foal at less than two days old is healthy, sprightly and inquisitive with a beautiful glossy shine to his coat. Tess is now getting a daily ration of Red Bag Grass Pellets, Timothy Chop, Linseed, Brewers Yeast and has access to a salt lick. All my ponies have done so well on Simple System and I have no hesitations in recommending it to others.
