Eclipse Recovery - a powerful support package for horses

27 November 2025

A perhaps lesser-known product in our range is the humble Eclipse Recovery - a naturally concentrated tonic feed that provides a powerful support package for our horse’s digestive tract and immune system.

Its main base is fermented wildflower meadow forages which act as a postbiotic.

Postbiotics are the end product of microbial fermentation and our horses gut bugs are constantly producing these metabolites. The breakdown of fibre in the hindgut provides our horses with their main energy substrate - volatile fatty acids - but also B-group vitamins and Vitamin K and it is not just fibre digestion these gut bugs are responsible for as there have been strong links made between the hindgut microbiome, immune response and even cognition.

If our horse or indeed their gut becomes stressed, and the microbiome becomes imbalanced, production can slow and there may be an inadequate supply of these important metabolites - providing a top-up using postbiotics helps make up any shortfalls.

Stress, illness, strong medication or seasonal changes to weather and grass nutrition can all upset the sensitive balance of microbes in the hindgut. A healthy gut equals a healthy horse so it makes sense to offer a little support to the gut bugs, in their time of need, so that they can continue supporting our horses.

Horseradish is included as a source of antioxidants (which can help neutralise free radicals), linseed for its omega-3 content and seaweed for natural minerals and trace elements. This tonic feed can benefit a variety of horses at different times of year, life stage and workload.

Eclipse Recovery can be used during periods of illness, hospitalisation, recovery, stress, yard moves, diet changes or during intense travel and competition periods helping provide the all important “pick me up” they might need to keep them feeling and performing at their best.

We suggest feeding the full rate of 40g per 100kg ideal bodyweight per day, choosing the 5kg bag for “ponies” and the 10kg bag for “horses”. When getting two thirds through the bag, you can start tapering the amount off – this allows you to determine whether they need a lower dose for a longer period of time. If they seem less well than the week or days before, go back to the previous dose whilst others maybe be able to finish the bag and not need to continue any longer. If necessary, the course can be restarted at any point.

Can the grass still be growing in November?

Grass has the potential to grow all year, which is different from many other plants. Certain things are necessary for this growth, but if they are not met, the grass will be dormant, waiting for conditions to improve.

Rain after drought, what happens to your horse's grass

Rain fall can trigger growth akin to a spring flush, especially if temperatures are high. Even whilst true spring may be in the past, the risk for those prone to laminitis will rise.
