Horses can appear out of sorts or ‘under the weather’ for a great number of reasons.
Increasing workload, travelling / competing and the energetic demand of changing their coat can all cause our horses to feel flat and tired. The stress of moving home or losing a companion can also affect their demeanour and appetence. Being unwell; having something as drastic as a hospital stay or surgery or simply requiring a course of strong medication can also lower the immune system.
All of these factors can contribute to increased susceptibility to picking up bugs and viruses.
It may be necessary to give them some down time and a lighter work schedule or consider using a course of Eclipse Recovery to help repopulate a healthy range of hindgut microflora and boost the immune system.
If you have concerns your horse is unwell, please always consult your vet.
