Polocrosse National Championships 2007 - Three action packed days in August

20 November 2007

Thanks are due to Essex polocrosse team Western Phoenix and the UKPA for organising a terrific National Championship Meeting at Ashfields Farm Polo and Carriage Driving Centre in Essex. Anybody not versed in the skills and thrills of polocrosse are missing a serious chunk of equine life. This game invented in England but adopted and developed in Australia involves the hand eye skills of any ball game, the physicality of rugby and above all else, stunning horsemanship. To further enhance this mix there is a highly sociable element to these weekend meetings which is totally devoid of pretension, as you would expect with any Oz inspired sport. Hard, family orientated socialising and hard competition. At present we are lucky to have a considerable number of southern hemisphere players in our UK teams as part of a policy to improve the competitiveness of our best players. The benefit of this policy became clear in the hard fought final between Kent Target team and the Highlanders. The former having a significant number of imported southern hemisphere players and the latter being wholly home grown, this clash virtually became a rerun of the World Cup final last year and, sadly, with a similar outcome - a win by the Antipodes. At these championships Simple System Ltd had the privilege of sponsoring the prizes for the best horses in each class. Honouring these fit hard working little horses must be the most deserved sponsorship we have ever been involved in. In 2011 the Polocrosse World Cup will be held in the UK and between now and then Simple System Ltd would be pleased to help raise the profile of this great discipline. In the meantime we recommend this as being one of the most positive sports in which to participate and I can personally recommend it as a superb spectator sport.
