Why should I feed a forage balancer?

07 July 2017

When horses are on a forage diet, which is similar to that on which they evolved, they do not actually need much in the way of supplementation. However, modern pastures and especially modern hay have very little of the wild flowers that were once so abundant in grazing and hay meadows. These will supply more essential omega 3 than grass or hay alone. Feeding a balancer will ensure your horse is receiving all the nutrients, minerals and fatty acids needed for a balanced diet. Omega 3 fatty acids have a wide range of benefits from enhancing mobility to promoting heart and skin health. Omega 3 is also an anti-inflammatory. Few pastures these days have the necessary range of plants for horses to choose from to get their requirement of omega 3 from grazing alone. We use natural ingredients in our balancers, such as pure ocean seaweed, to top up on minerals and trace elements. As grass is shallow rooting, it does not access the range of minerals that deep rooting plants and herbs reach. Our balancers contain a natural prebiotic to support healthy gut function. Stabilised yeast ensures encourages a population of healthy gut microbes, ensuring better hindgut fermentation and nutrient absorption. It is also a good source of copper and zinc, as well as a natural source of B vitamins and amino acids. As Simple System balancers contain 100% active ingredients, free from bulkers or fillers, you only need to feed a small amount each day. In addition, our entire range is free from cereals, molasses, additives and preservatives. Our balancers are specifically formulated to complement a healthy forage diet. We have a range of balancers to cater for all horses, including those that need additional joint support, those with metabolic issues and those with temperamental issues.
