Feed horses with weak hooves

Poor diet, genetic predisposition and adverse conditions can all contribute to poor hoof condition. We cannot control the weather and many of us have not bred our own horses but we can make sure we are providing an appropriate diet to promote strong and healthy hoof growth.

Quality protein is essential so include some lucerne or sainfoin in their bucket to complement their grazing. Minerals and trace elements can be topped up with a Simple System forage balancer or additional Pure Ocean Seaweed. The anti-fungal properties of Organic Cider Vinegar can make it a useful hoof dressing.

Consult your farrier or trimmer to devise an appropriate trimming or shoeing schedule to make sure you are not going too long between cycles. Exposing your horse to a variety of surfaces and terrains can also increase durability and strength - try to ensure horses that live out always have access to hard or dry standing and that feet are picked out daily.
