Farrah

Liane Rhodes

Farrah has a condition called Insulin resistance.  I didn't know anything about this condition until 2 years ago.  My very trim, well exercised Arab mare had a period of not doing anything for a couple of weeks because of sheet ice outside and around the yard. Our world came crashing down within a timescale of 24 hours when she suffered a full laminitic attack (even though she was not overweight). X-Rays showed full pedal bone rotation in both front hooves.  The vet's advice was PTS.  I searched the internet, got support from my barefoot trimmer and rang Jane van Lennep!  Six months later, Farrah is better than she had ever been, even jumping at liberty through her own choice, which she had never done before and I put down to behaviour! Two years later, she is absolutely fantastic! The truth is, because of sugars and starches in her diet, she had been living with low level laminitis for a long time and I just didn't know. Simple Systems feeds not only helped to save her life, but also keep her fit and well so she will never suffer another laminitic attack again. She is fed Purabeet, Total Eclipse, Instant Linseed and cinnamon. She has soaked haylage, but also is out grazing for several hours a day, which I thought would never be possible again..
