Managing Grazing: The Spring Flush
Spring and periods of rapid growth can significantly alter the nutrient profile of pasture. Here are some practical strategies to help manage the transition:
Lucie®Fibre Cubes are a great feed! They are the pelleted equivalent of Lucie®Stalks so are high in fibre, naturally low in sugar and low calorie - ideal for good doers. Not all good doers want to munch through the chewy Lucie®Stalks so if your horse for whatever reason is unable to chew very well – getting old, prone to choke, dental problems, following surgery – then soaked Lucie®Fibre Cubes are ideal and can also be used to replace some or all of the hay ration. They are also a really good pelleted feed to go in a feeding ball, when you need something to keep your horse busy but don’t want to add lots of calories or anything that might be heating.
Lucie®Fibre Cubes are an ideal feed for all good doers, horses, ponies or donkeys, to add bulk to the diet and for environmental enrichment as they enable the horse to spend more time eating. We think they are a great addition this time of year when the grass is going off and horses may be spending more time indoors getting bored! Other feeds that are good this time of year for good doers or bored horses are Lucie®Brix, MeadowBrix, soaked PuraBeet and Timothy Chop, for instance.
