William Reddaway & Strider - a final update

01 May 2014

We have recently received a lovely letter from William Reddaway and Strider. Between 10 May and 8 December 2013 William Reddaway and Strider travelled 2,674 miles to Four Corners of England, visiting 30 cathedrals on the way, they had no backup vehicle or ‘crew’. Their journey went via: Gloucester, Hereford, Worcester, Coventry, Lichfield, Chester, Sheffield, the Solway Firth, Carlisle, the Northumberland coat at Bamburgh, Durham, Ripon, York, Lincoln, Southwell, Peterborough, Ely, Norwich, Bury St Edmunds, St Albans, St Pauls, Southwark, Rochester, Canterbury, North Foreland on the Kent coast, Chichester, Winchester, Salisbury, Exeter, Truro, Lands End, Wells, Bristol, Oxford, back to Gloucester, Tewkesbury Abbey and home.

Dear Simple System Horse feeds,

It is four months since we got home and I am almost at the end of writing to the hundreds of people who made the ride around England possible. All the team at Simple System Ltd, were key to our success. While I finished pretty much a wreck, Strider came in fitter, fatter and more relaxed than when we set out and looking terrific. Thank you for your patience and help when I phoned from the side of some road and tried to read off addresses on the spreadsheet that I had them on! I still have not counted how many different places we stayed at, but it was around 130 and Strider munched his SimplyComplete at the different locations for 212 nights.

I must thank you for getting feed to him all the way round virtually without a hitch; for producing the 10kg bags for us which made all the one night stops really sensible; for your financial support . I got some things wrong, very wrong but I got his feed right and everyone could see that in how he looked. Thank you for your advice, commitment and support.

Donations for the charity are up to £60,000 and I will give talks this year and next to try to push this up.

With Best Wishes, William and Strider

William made the journey to raise money for the Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre, Riding for the Disabled Association and the Family Holiday Association. If you would like to add to his running total please go to www.rideroundengland.org where you can donate via Virgin Money Giving.

If you would like an illustrated talk given, or an article written, please contact Wiiliam on 07798 935100 or via wreddaway@btinternet.com. For information about the planned talks see www.rideroundengland.wordpress.com.
