Ann Bishop from Wickham Bishops, Essex, set off on Saturday 14th July in a carriage pulled by her pony Pebbles. They will journey together all the way to Santiago de Compostela in North-West Spain. Their journey will see them travel across Britain (including through the Dartford tunnel), France and Spain to try to raise £10,000 for charity. Ann Bishop plans that the trek will take six weeks and cover more than 1,300 miles, following the ancient medieval Way of St James. Before leaving for the trek Ann said: “I have always been interested in pilgrimages and am using the same route which has been used for centuries. I always wanted to do it and my mother, who was my inspiration, died in November from Dementia, so I am doing this in memory of her.” (cited from Maldon Standard, July 18, 2007). The money raised will be used to run workshops locally – in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Society – to offer help and advice to families and careers. Pebbles a 5 year old 13.2hh Appaloosa X mare has been building up to the long trek over many months. Simple System Ltd has worked closely with Ann to find the most suitable diet for Pebbles during her training and throughout the trip. Pebbles will be fed solely on our EnduroComplete Pellets. This convenient feed containing a combination of the ingredients we recommend will enable Ann to carry the feed with her, collecting more stocks at points along her journey. Rain fall can trigger growth akin to a spring flush, especially if temperatures are high. Even whilst true spring may be in the past, the risk for those prone to laminitis will rise.
For the second consecutive Sunday, presenter Adam Henson has discussed the use of sainfoin during Countryfile.
''Feed the mare to feed the foal'' - wise words from many an experienced breeder. With little grass due to the dry weather, grazing can be topped up in the feed bowl.
