MetaSlim Horse Feed of the Month 2012

10 May 2012

What a May we are having! Will it ever dry up? The trouble is, with all this rain and now the temperatures rising, albeit behind the seasonal average, the grass is finally getting away big time and laminitis is an even greater risk.

Laminitis is a serious disease and if you think your equine friend might be suffering with it, you should call your vet. The risks are greater if the horse is already overweight and it can be associated with those lumpy fat pads they can get on their crest, ribs or bum. Some medications can trigger it, too, and it is also associated with Equine Metabolic Syndrome which is a bit like Type II diabetes in people.

Diet is an important part of recovery and more and more people are coming to rely on MetaSlim to aid recovery from laminitis and to keep their horses and ponies healthy afterwards. Formulated in co-operation with a leading equine vet, it provides nutritional support for healing and is equally successful fed alongside a low calorie diet for overweights or with a suitable low sugar, low starch diet to build up skinnies. Low calories needed? Combine this wonder-feed with Timothy Chop! Need to build up a horse who has been dieted hard but perhaps still “footy”? Any of our lucerne feeds work well – try GreenGold chop, or Lucie®Nuts for instance. For a medium calorie, moist chop to replace grazing for those on box rest, Lucie®Cobs which are fed soaked, could be just the ticket.

MetaSlim really does work, is easy to feed – just work out what your horse’s correct weight should be, then feed this figure in grams. So a 400 kg large native will need 400g of MetaSlim per day. This should be divided into two feeds and mixed with the rest of the feed. We suggest that total dry matter intake should be at or near 2% of body weight.

MetaSlim combines good sound nutrition with the proven benefits of specific herbs and spices to form a palatable, effective feed for those equines with any form of Metabolic Syndrome. Always consult your vet if you suspect your horse has EMS.
