Heald Town Highland Pony Stud

Set on the edge of the Peak District National Park in Cheshire, Heald Town Stud strive to breed high quality ponies suitable for the show ring and with temperaments to become all round family ponies. They believe in keeping the management of their ponies ‘as close to nature as possible’, ensuring happy, healthy ponies. Their ponies live out in herd groups on the steep hills and natural, rough grazing that the Peak District provides.

Heald Town were introduced to Simple System back in 2014 when owner, Carolyn, contacted the Feed Line about her elderly Shetland pony who was prone to colic. ‘‘Lucie Nuts were recommended and the results were exceptional. The pony, Juniper, improved in her overall condition, her coat shone and she no longer suffered bouts of colic.’’

Following Juniper’s success the whole herd was switched to a complete Simple System diet.

‘’We are very keen to promote natural feeding of our native Highlands as they are not built to cope with rich higher sugar diets that you see in many other feeds. We also needed a straightforward and economical diet that could be used for our mares, stallions, foals and youngstock that would promote muscle development and bone growth without adding excess fat or fizz. With Simple System we have found exactly that.’’

‘’All, including the show ponies, have the same diet of Sainfoin Pellets, Lucie Nuts, Red Bag Grass Pellets and Instant Linseed. We also use Salt Lick Tub's year round and find Sainfoin Brix very useful for placing out in the field when grazing is short in the cooler months and for occupying the ponies when they are indoors for grooming, vet checks and farrier visits.’’
