It's time for our January competition! You can win a 20kg Lucie®Nuts, a 20kg PuraBeet and a 5kg Total Eclipse!

Lucie®Nuts are 10 – 12mm pellets are made from a coarser grist than most other pellets and soak to form a fine chop which horses find much more acceptable and is better for their gut function too. With lots of natural vitamins, minerals and trace elements, no additives along with low sugar and starch, this feed is safe for just about all horse and ponies. Combine it with our PuraBeet soaked to soft, succulent pieces, and you have an economical, nutritious and palatable alternative to hay or haylage for your dentally challenged equine.

For the perfect combination, add our Total Eclipse - our effective, economical balancer that suits most horses, all year round.

Making Plans

Posted by Emma Jackman on 19 January 2015

As we start a new year there is plenty to look forward to in 2015. It has been quiet on the competition and training front for the past couple of months for us  but Rhapsody and I have been keeping up with our fitness and suppling  work and Rhaps is looking and feeling great.  He is a bit wooly but a full beauty treatment is booked for him when I get back from my visit to the Virgin Islands. While there I am hoping to meet  up with friends and  supporters along with the pony club not to mention the VI Equestrian Association/National Paralympic Committee president Regine Fitzner.

While I am away Georgina Wood, another Simple System sponsored rider, is going to ride Rhaps  when she can between university and riding her own horses…  The plan is  Rhaps and I should be ready to hit the road running when I return at the beginning of February.

I am getting more excited by the day!

It has been so busy the last couple of weeks, I thought I had better do a mid January blog to prevent the next one being a dissertation length essay!!
I came across this quote and thought it was fantastic: Enthusiasm is excitement with inspiration, motivation and a pinch of creativity. It summarises my excitement for the season so well!

So last weekend we headed to Littleton Manor on the Saturday for their first British Eventing Fixture, the Arena Eventing. It was a fabulous event, the course was great as there were turns to make you take risks if you wanted to win, and slower lines if you were going for a confident giving round. It was great to see local XC starter Chris Kirby on the collecting ring and it ran so smoothly so thank you everyone! Lily was awesome - she found it so easy and flew round. We weren't quite quick enough to catch the leaders but was good enough to finish 3rd in a very competitive class. Read more

Show team for next season

I have a few new rides for 2015, although they are not new to the stud. Sherlock’s Apollo’s Dreamer will be a 4yr old, although she is still young and will make a very big mare so she will just do the odd little show just to see everything with the aim of doing some bigger shows is 2016. I don’t believe in rushing young horses. She has a big frame to grow into, but has and will never be over fed to try and benefit her in the show ring.

Blondie Blue Noble is one of our broodmares and has produced us 2 national foal champions as well as winning at the nationals herself previously. She was backed before having children, but un-shown under saddle. She had been up for sale, but with no takers I thought I’d bring her out myself next season.

LucieNuts & PuraBeet - Horse Feeds of the Month January 2015

Did you know that 30% of the horses in the UK are aged over 15 years? We did a quick survey of 60 of our customers’ horses and found that 25% were over 20 years. This means we are taking good care of our older horses and keeping them healthy for longer. All too often, the one thing that lets them down is their teeth. Even with the best car e in the world, the teeth will be suffering the effects of age from about 20 years on and by 30, most horses will be losing teeth. If a horse cannot eat enough forage, the guts as well as the whole horse will suffer.

Old horses with dental issues in effect need pre-chewed forage. Horses with perfect teeth chew their food down to around 2mm so it makes sense to provide a food that is just that.
